Hydraulic Hose Assemblies – essential tips for safety.

Through proper care and maintenance, it is possible to extend the life of hydraulic hose assemblies, however, there will come a time when they need replacing completely. This article gives advice on how to make sure that the hydraulic hose assemblies are replaced properly when the time comes.

1. Buy from a trusted supplier.
Our company has years of experience in the supply of hydraulic hose assemblies and we can answer any questions that you might have on the subject. SE Hydraulics are approved members of the British Fluid Power Association for quality, which means our customers can be assured of the best possible quality when they buy from us.

2. Use components from the same manufacturer.
Don’t be tempted to mix and match different components. When purchasing new hydraulic hose assemblies, make sure the parts you intend using are all from the same manufacturer to avoid any compatibility issues.

3. Replace with compatible components.
Always replace them with compatible components, safe working pressure and fluid compatibility is essential. SE Hydraulics have a vast range of hoses and hydraulics hose assemblies and components, so we are should be able to offer the assembly that you need, however, If you find it difficult to get assembly that meets your exact requirements, then talk to SE Hydraulics about our custom service so we can create the right hydraulic hose assemblies for your needs.

4. Ensure correct re-assembly.

Tips on Maintaining Hydraulic Hose Assemblies

Your hydraulic hose assemblies won’t last forever, but with some proper care it is possible to give them some extra life. In this blog post, SE Hydraulics detail some tips to ensure that your hydraulic hose assemblies last as long as possible.

The most important tip is to carry out a visual inspection. Schedule a time every month or so to inspect your hydraulic hose assemblies to ensure that they are in excellent condition. Clues that might indicate that it is starting to age include signs of leaking oil, wear on the hose or corrosion.
If you notice any other signs of wear, then make sure that the hydraulic hose assemblies are checked as soon as possible to ensure that they stay in optimum condition and that they remain safe to use.

It is also essential to use the right components. It’s imperative to always use components that are from the same manufacturers. Mixing and matching different components from different manufactures can cause compatibility issues and it can also be dangerous, leading to breakdowns and sometimes injury.

Another tip is to check the date on the hydraulic hose assemblies. It is estimated that they should last for ten years. Most manufactures will put a date on the hose, so make a note of this so you know when it is approaching time for a replacement.

In addition, installing the hydraulic hose assemblies properly is another vital aspect of long term maintenance. Make sure that you follow the manufactures guidelines for installing it to avoid any unnecessary wear and tear as this will help to guarantee a longer life.

Health and Safety
Also there is a significant Health and Safety risk from Fluid Injection Injuries which can be caused by poorly maintained hoses which if not treated correctly can cause the amputation of fingers or hands. The British Fluid Power Association has an excellent booklet on this subject,

And the International Fluid Power Society has a good narrated presentation called “In the Line of Fire” in their archived safety section

The benefits of maintaining hydraulic hose assemblies
As well as giving the hydraulic hose assemblies a longer life, there are many more benefits to maintaining hydraulic hose assemblies.

Regular maintenance will help your business to avoid downtime and provide better performance; carrying out a regular maintenance programme is more cost effective than waiting for a problem to occur then acting to fix it.
